CIRCULAR
Critical Water Situation at Meherabad and Meherazad
(Measures Effective from 15 October 2026 and Until Further Notice)
Baba’s dear ones,
Avatar Meher Baba ki Jai!
As Beloved Baba would have it, Meherabad and Meherazad are currently facing a water crisis of unprecedented proportions. The Trust is exploring every possible option and avenue to secure water, including seeking assistance from local sources and the Municipal Corporation. However, the entire Ahilyanagar region is experiencing an acute shortage, and the external sources we can access are themselves severely limited. We continue to do everything within our means to address this critical situation and secure whatever water we can.
Having made, and continuing to make, every possible effort, we must then leave everything to Baba’s Will.
The measures outlined in this Circular are based on the prevailing circumstances, which may improve or, conversely, require stricter controls. Accordingly, these measures may need to be reviewed and amended from time to time, even from one day to the next, as Baba guides us through the circumstances before us.
Effective from 15 October 2026 and until further notice, the following immediate restrictions and status quo measures shall apply:
1. Accommodation and Reservations
MPR and Hostel D will each accommodate a maximum of 50 pilgrims at a time, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Indian pilgrims: Maximum stay of 5 days per reservation.
Non-Indian pilgrims: Maximum stay of 3 weeks per reservation.
MPC and Dharamshala will remain closed until the water situation improves.
2. Darshan
Meher Baba’s Samadhi will remain open for darshan as per the regular schedule.
Meherazad and Meher Nazar (Trust Office) will remain open for scheduled darshan, subject to prevailing conditions.
3. Water Conservation
All pilgrims and visitors are requested to use water with the utmost care. During their stay, pilgrims are requested to:
Not wash clothes.
Bathe once every two days, unless otherwise required.
Avoid all non-essential use of water.
4. Programmes and Large Group Visits
The Trust will not schedule any programmes for New Life and Mehera’s Birthday until the water situation improves.
The Trust has deferred the 17th Annual Legacy Programme originally scheduled for December 2026 and will review it once conditions improve.
Amartithi 2027 will take place as per schedule.
Pilgrims are requested not to plan large-group stays at Meherabad during the festival season—Dussehra, Diwali, Christmas, and New Year.
5. Kitchens and Dining
Kitchens at MPR and Hostel D will continue to operate.
Dining facilities will continue for resident pilgrims and visitors, as feasible under the prevailing water conditions.
Your loving cooperation, tolerance, and acceptance in the face of the prevailing circumstances and hardships are, for want of better words, beautifully captured in the lines of a qawwali that Mani particularly loved: “Teri Khushi, Voh Meri Khushi” — “Your pleasure is my pleasure.”
In His Love and Service,
The Board of Trustees
