This is the sixth poem in Khorshed’s songbook, and the sixth in the Persian series of Persian poems written by young Merwan with the takhallus or pen-name “Mihrabān”. As with the entire series, this is the only source available and very little is known about it. It bears the number (6), has a pencil check mark on the upper left and ends with a double separation line.
از دل مراد خواهی دل پاره ریشه کن
یا نوش عسل ویل کن یا میل نیشه کن
خواهی خدا شناس شوی خود شناس شو
یعنی خودی تباه کن و درویشی پیشه کن
هیچ است هر آن کار که جز کار خدا شد
پیش از عمل خیال و خیال از اندیشه کن
یک نام خدا پایۀ هر دو جهان بود
حق نام گیر و دیو هزاران به شیشه کن
از رنج مشو غافل گر شوق گنج داری
گر لاف عشق حق زدی سر زیر تییشه کن
عاشق همه جا دوست را آرد به نگاهش
ای مهربان فکر الهی همیشه کن
Do you want your heart’s desire? Then cut your heart to bits.
Either give up eating honey, or find a dagger.
Do you want to know God? Then know yourself.
That is, destroy selfhood, make renouncer your career.
Every work that is not the work of God is nothing.
Put imagination before action, and make imagination from thought.
One name of God is the basis for both worlds.
Take the name of Truth and put a thousand demons in a bottle.
Don’t be unaware of pain if you long to have the treasure.
If you boast about the love of God, put your head beneath the ax.
The lover brings the beloved everywhere into his glance.
Mihraban, keep your thought always upon God.
